My Dog’s Food Recipe

A few days ago I wrote about how I came up with my dogs stew. I did list out the ingredients. I’ve since figured out the actual recipe. As I mentioned, I did run the recipe past his vet and she gave her approval. She did recommend that I add in a multi-vitamin if he eats only the food I make.

Ingredients:

  • 4 Eggs
  • 1 pound Ground Turkey
  • 2 Cups chopped and pealed Sweet Potato
  • 2 Cups chopped Carrots (I don’t peel the carrots)
  • 3 Cups Brown rice
  • Water: enough water for the rice
  • 3 Cups chopped Zucchini (I leave the peel on the zucchini)

Directions:

In a large pot mix the ground turkey with the eggs. Turn on the heat and stir. Add in the brown rice and mix it well. Add in the sweet potatoes. Add in the water. Keep stirring to make sure the meat doesn’t burn on the bottom of the pan. Once the water comes to a boil, turn down the heat and put on the lid. Cook until there is about twenty minutes left on the rice. Add in the carrots and zucchini. Stir and put the lid back on. Let simmer until the rice is done and the water has evaporated. The sweet potato needs 45 minutes cooking time to get completely done.

That will make about 14 twelve ounce containers of food. I freeze and take it out the day before I need the next container. I’ve noticed that it gets compacted in the container so sometimes I have to microwave to finish thawing the food.
